A New Beginning for Hull Council of Disabled People
Cobus have recently completed the telecommunications install at The Hull Council of Disabled People (HCDP), new premises housed at the old Herby’s site on 75 Ferensway, beginning a new and exciting phase in the Charities development from humble beginnings at 35 Ferensway.
A Cobus customer for many years, the HCDP, conceived during the International Year of Disabled People in 1981 has served the community with vital services for almost 30 years and is now looking forward to further growth and development from the move, which will see the benefits of better footfall and passing trade, a Café and drop-in centre, together with improved parking facilities from the nearby St Stephens Shopping Centre and a forthcoming Cyber Café which Cobus IT will be deliver. The charity is hoping the move will lead to increased awareness about the needs, abilities and aspirations of disabled people amongst the general public.

“In the 29 years since being founded, the HCDP has become well-known and respected for its work with disabled groups. Building many links with other local Organisations as well as National and Statutory bodies has been extremely important to us and our aim for the future is to increase partnerships with local businesses and groups to ensure we are successfully positioned for our future growth.”
After supporting the Charity for over 10 years, local Telecoms firm The Cobus Communications Group, have installed a new telephone system and IT infrastructure at the new site on Ferensway - free of charge and Group Director Mike Smith added “We were pleased to have the opportunity to offer our expertise on this exciting new undertaking and we were happy to back the aspirations of a well-respected, organisation which does such important work for the people of Hull.”
The New Centre was officially opened on the 1st September by Ex Hull FC most capped England player Gary Schofield followed by a blessing from the Reverend John Tasker.
