July was a busy month for Cobus and saw us unvolved with various School events, from the ‘Job Hunt Day’ at South Hunsley School, to ‘A day in the life at Cobus’ career event at South Holderness School, together with the fantastic and first-ever Hull ‘TeenTech’ event organised by former Tomorrows World presenter Maggie Philbin.
The TeenTech Technology event was held at the KC Stadium on the 14th May. The Humber Education Business Partnership (EBP) was chosen as one of the two areas in the UK to run the event created by Maggie Philbin and Chris Dodson of the IoD.
300 students aged 12-13 had the opportunity to try their hand at experiments, handle leading edge technology and, most importantly meet the engineers, technicians and scientists behind their 21st century lives.
Cobus showcased a practical challenge that allowed pupils to interact with the latest in communications and VoIP technology and our stand was manned by Yorkshire & Humber Apprenticeship Finalist Cobus Network Engineer Lewis Spears, a representative from our leading manufacturer who provided details on the current and emerging technologies in the communications arena and Cobus Business Manager Vicky O’Grady. Maggie commented “We have had very positive comments from companies and schools alike. Hull was a significant event for us as it was the first time we've run TeenTech outside the Thames Valley and the committed support and excellent organisation from the Humber EBP team gave us a flying start.”
The South Hunsley Schools ‘Job Hunt Day’ was aimed at raising student aspirations and developing awareness about the range of opportunities for further and higher education, training and employment available from local businesses. Vicky O’Grady, Cobus Business Manager was on hand for a day to mentor Students with careers advice and support. Our commitment to see local education supported by local business saw us also attending South Holderness School’s ‘People at Work’ Seminar Day. The day gave pupils an insight into the world of business and gave pupils a chance to speak to business people from various industries and disciplines and Cobus staff involvement in these events has highlighted the positive community and schools focus that we are keen to build on.
