Cobus were proud to once again show their support on Friday June 1 2018 for  the Disability Sports Humber when they held the “Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Awards for Excellence in Disability Sports” for 400 guests at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Hull.

Our guests enjoyed a drinks reception at the new Hilton hotel and a delicious 3-course meal before the awards got underway. We had a tough decision to choose the winner of our sponsored category – Athlete of the Year, however after much deliberation, we chose Ben Leech as our winner. Ben has had to overcome many health problems in his 23 years, but it hasn’t stopped him throwing his everything into swimming. He has such a tenacious approach and doesn’t let his disabilities get him down, and even when he is too ill to swim, he still is at the side of the pool cheering his team mates on. He fully deserved to be recognised for his swimming achievements and the strength and attitude he shows. Ben dreams of representing his country one day and we have no doubt he will achieve that. Well done Ben.

We also had the pleasure to meet and chat with the Ambassador for Disability Sports Humber, Paralympic UK Judoka and former Kelvin Hall pupil Chris Skelley who spoke about his sporting career to date and where his training is taking him next. Chris attended amidst a busy training schedule that saw him return from Japan two days before and fly out to Korea the very next morning.

It was a fantastic evening celebrating and recognising the best in sporting talent across the region. Well done to all nominees and winners.
