At the Cobus Communications Group, we are always keen to support local businesses and community initiatives, so when Cameron from East Yorkshire Carpets approached us just three weeks before his charity football tournament, we jumped at the chance to get involved.
Cameron’s vision was simple but ambitious: bring local businesses together for a day of football, raise much-needed funds and awareness for Hull 4 Heroes, East Yorkshire Carpets’ Charity of the Year, and create an event that could become an annual fixture in the local business calendar.
As the main sponsor, we were delighted to support the event, with the tournament trophy proudly named the Cobus Communications Cup. We also entered our own team, ready to swap telecoms for football boots and take on the competition!
Supporting an Incredible Local Charity
Hull 4 Heroes does incredible work supporting serving personnel, veterans, and their families as they transition to civilian life. The charity provides a wide range of support services, including housing assistance, employment and training support, welfare advice, wellbeing initiatives, and community programmes designed to prevent homelessness and improve the lives of former members of the Armed Forces and their families. Their commitment to supporting those who have served our country makes them a truly worthy cause, and we were proud to play a small part in helping raise awareness and funds for their work.
A Great Day of Football
Held on Saturday 9th August, the tournament brought together eight local teams for an afternoon of football in glorious sunshine. While some teams were there purely for fun, others arrived looking like they had never really retired from the game, resulting in some highly competitive matches throughout the day.
We’re proud to say that the Cobus team put in a fantastic performance, battling their way through to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, our journey ended there with a narrow 1-0 defeat to a much younger and very energetic side. We’ll definitely be using that excuse for years to come!
Most importantly, the event was a huge success. It not only raised valuable funds and awareness for Hull 4 Heroes but also brought together local businesses for a fantastic day of networking, teamwork, and community spirit.
A huge congratulations to Burtonwood Plumbing, who were crowned champions of the inaugural event after a well-deserved tournament-winning performance.
We would like to thank Cameron and the team at East Yorkshire Carpets for organising such a brilliant event and for allowing us to play a part in its success. We look forward to supporting future tournaments and helping this fantastic local initiative continue to grow year after year.
We are very proud to announce the event raised a huge £925 for the charity so a massive thank you to everyone who took part – it was a great success!
